How we build, verify and correct our calculators and articles.
Our purpose
Finance Toolkit exists to explain money math clearly. Everything we publish is educational. We do not give personalised financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and we do not promote specific financial products.
How we build and check calculators
- Standard formulas. Each tool uses a widely published formula (for example the fixed-payment amortisation formula for loans or the future-value-of-annuity formula for savings). The formula is shown on the tool’s page.
- Hand checks. We verify outputs against worked examples calculated by hand and against standard spreadsheet functions such as PMT, FV and NPER.
- Input validation. Fields reject blank, negative or implausible values with a plain-language message.
- Stated assumptions. Each page states its assumptions, such as monthly compounding or end-of-period deposits, so you can judge whether they fit your situation.
How we write articles
- Articles explain concepts with numbers you can reproduce, and link to the calculator that does the arithmetic.
- We avoid promises of returns, “guaranteed” outcomes and urgency tactics.
- Claims about how products work are kept general; we point readers to official sources or their own lender for specific terms.
- Pages show a review date. We revisit content periodically and whenever a reader reports a problem.
Independence and advertising
Our editorial content is independent of advertising. Advertisers cannot pay for placement in an article or influence a result. Any ads shown are served automatically by Google AdSense and are labelled as advertisements by the ad provider. We do not use affiliate links or paid reviews.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell us. We will check it, correct verified errors as soon as practical, and update the review date on the affected page.
Limits of our content
Calculators are simplified models. They do not account for every fee, tax rule or lender practice, and past or assumed returns do not predict future results. For decisions that matter, consult a qualified professional. See the full disclaimer.
